Shaping our Future Raises Awareness of Digital Skills for Better Self Care

Working together to support the people of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly to help themselves and each other for longer-lasting independence is just one part of the vision for Shaping our Future. One way this is a real possibility locally is through accessing the support outlined below.
For the people of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, digital health can mean better access to information and care, increased convenience, and more opportunities for greater control of their own health and shared care.

Do you know someone who could benefit from help with digital skills? Sometimes, common tasks like searching the internet or using online services can be difficult. There is a small team of Online Support Officers dedicated to getting people in Cornwall online and supporting them to become confident in using the internet and technology.

The team offers

  • Free digital awareness sessions for groups of staff and people to help them find, use and recommend online digital health tools and information.
  • Free train the trainer programme supporting organisations to recruit and train ‘Digital Champions’.
    • There are a range of digital health tools out there which could help people to help themselves during times when a GP and A&E are not appropriate. A volunteer Digital Champion can help to break down the barriers people face to being online, improve their understanding and awareness of the internet and inspire them to make digital health a part of their everyday lives.

Ultimately, getting more people online is about people: people helping other people to see how the internet can transform their lives. In relation to health care this is an important aspect of the Shaping our Future toolkit to enable the people of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly to help themselves and each other for longer-lasting independence.
